Obituary for James L Wemple

Worthington, Minnesota
     James Lee Wemple, 85, was born on April 19, 1923, in Worthington, MN, the son of Edwin and Genevieve (Abbott) Wemple.  He graduated from Worthington High School in 1941 and from Worthington Junior College in 1943.  After college, he entered the service and served until 1947 in the Naval Air Force.  James married Mary McConnell on June 26, 1950 and moved to Worthington where he worked for Tellander-Hagge.  James began working for the United States Postal Service in 1953 as a city mail carrier and retired in 1986 after 32 years, following in his father's footsteps, who retired as a rural mail carrier after 42 years.  In his post retirement years, he worked for Diamond Vogel and also at Fisher’s Standard Station.  James was an avid baseball fan and attended the 1997 and 2003 World Series in Miami which the Florida Marlins won.  He enjoyed traveling with his family, golfing, Big Band music, and reading to his grandkids.  James died on Monday, December 29, 2008, at the Sanford Regional Hospital in Luverne, MN.
     James is survived by his wife, Mary of Worthington, MN; four children, Steven (Patricia) Wemple of Miami, FL and their children, Lisa, James, and Stefanie, Barbara Westphal of Worthington, MN and her children, Celia and Paige, Mary Ellen (David) Lowe of Muscatine, IA and their children, Nicholas (Adrianne) Doy and Caitlin Ryan, and Marc (Charlotte) Wemple of Rosemount, MN and their children, Anthony and Benjamin.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Lyle.
     Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 2, 2009, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Worthington, MN, with Father Larry Brixius officiating.  James’ grandchildren will serve as casket bearers.  Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Worthington.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 1, 2008, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington.
