Obituary for James Galen Post

James Galen Post, 94, passed away on March 30, 2020. Jim was born on May 24, 1925 in Rost Township, Jackson County, MN at the home of his parents, Albert and Marie (Rentschler) Post. He grew up on the home farm and attended 3 years of country school and then 5 years of grade school at St. Paul Lutheran Parochial School. He traveled to school by horse and buggy and then when he could reach the pedals and see out of the windshield, by car. He graduated from Okabena High School in 1943, where he was a charter member of its FFA chapter, and was also active in 4-H through those years. Jim was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, rural Lakefield, MN and was a member there his entire life, serving on various boards and as an elder. His faith was strong as was his example to his family.
On August 4, 1957 he married Helen Adloff in Springfield, IL. Jim’s father retired and the couple purchased and lived on the home farm raising livestock and poultry along with crop farming. They started their family with a son, John and a daughter, Rhonda. Over the years together they continued to grow the farming operation with Helen taking care of the children and poultry flock and Jim doing the field work and tending to the livestock. In 1979 they moved into Lakefield. John and his wife Lesle moved onto the farm. Jim, John and a valued employee of Jim’s, Don Junker continued to farm. Jim was grateful for Don helping him for 25 years until Jim retired in 1987. After Helen’s passing, on November 7, 2010, Jim continued to live in their home until April of 2017 when he moved into Valley View Assisted Living in Lakefield.
Jim’s life, his passion; his hobby; was farm and farming. From planting corn with a 2 row planter at the age of 15 to riding with his grandson combining corn at the age of 94, his interest never changed. He was a hard worker and always said that he was only a steward of the soil and enjoyed its beauty and bounty, granting him an occupation he truly loved. Nothing made his day brighter than going for a drive to watch all of his family’s farming operations. Seeing all of his grandsons become farmers and being able to ride along with them in the machinery were special times for him, as was seeing one of his grandsons become the 4th generation to live on the farm where he was born. He was proud of his children and his grandchildren, the accomplishments in their lives, and he loved to see his great grandchildren.
Jim is survived by his son John (Lesle) Post, Worthington, MN and their children Dustin (Nichole) Post (Mason, Hannah, Khloe and Aidan), Okabena, MN; Raquel (Ryan) Ball, (Regan and Brooklyn), Aberdeen SD., his daughter Rhonda (Don) Stenzel, Okabena, MN and their children Jenny (Ryan) Larson and (Ruby), Arden Hills, MN; Mike (Hannah) Stenzel, (Ellary and Madden), Okabena, MN, Matt (Kelli) Stenzel and (Miles), also of Okabena, MN; 2 nephews, 1 niece and numerous cousins.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Helen of 53 years; his mother and father, his brother William and his wife Ardene, and his sister Eunice and her husband Arthur Meltzer.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Valley View Assisted Living for all the help and care given to Jim while he lived there, especially this past year.
Private family burial will be held with a memorial service to be held at a later date.
Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of the arrangements.
