Irene Cecelia (Krantz) Johnson was born April 21, 1921, in the home of her grandparents in Sioux Falls, SD. She was the daughter of Art and Jarda Krantz and has one brother, Harold Krantz. Irene grew up on a farm near Canistota and graduated from Canistota High School. On June 9, 1946, Irene and Sterling were married at Central Baptist Church in Sioux Falls, SD.  They moved to Worthington, MN where Sterling was a teacher. They later moved to Chicago when Sterling entered Northern Illinois College of Optometry. After Sterling’s graduation they returned to Worthington and started Johnson Eye Clinic. Irene was a faithful wife and wonderful mother to their five children. She also worked as the business manager for the eye clinic. In addition to these responsibilities, Irene led various church activities, including after-school Good News Clubs, release-time Bible school, Sunday school, VBS, and AWANA.
