Obituary for Henry Leon Funk

Round Lake, MN

      Henry Leon Funk, age 93, was born on Sunday, March 5, 1922, in Nobles County, MN, the son of Fred and Lena (Dirks) Funk. He attended school in Reading, MN and worked for various farmers in the area. Henry married Irene Geertsema on January 17, 1945, in Reading. He farmed by Fulda for four years and then moved to a farm near Round Lake, where he farmed for 35 years. He retired in 1983 and moved to Worthington. Henry served on the Round Lake Elevator Board for six years. He was named 1996 Nobles County Senior Citizen of the Year for his volunteer work. Henry was a member of Kiwanis. He enjoyed helping others. Henry was a woodworker, crafting wishing wells, Adirondack chairs and toys. Henry died on Sunday, February 7, 2016, at the Good Samaritan Society in Jackson, MN.

      Henry is survived by his daughter, Sharon (Don) Onken of Round Lake, MN; son, Dean (Ellie) Funk of Brooklyn Park, MN; 5 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; special friend, Lola Giesendorfer; sisters, Gladys Onken and Leona Salsbury; brother, Abel Funk; sister-in-law, Lois Funk, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brother, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, and great granddaughter.

      Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 12, 2016, at 11:00 a.m., at the First Presbyterian Church in Round Lake, MN, with Rev. Robert Bartlett officiating. Burial will be in the Worthington Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

      Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 11, 2016, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington.
