Obituary for Henry John Aberson

Lakefield, MN     Henry John Aberson was born on February 23, 1930, to Anton and Julia (Scholten) Aberson of Alton, IA. He graduated from Alton High School and later was drafted into the United States Army for two years, where he spent time in Germany and Austria.     He married Viola Jane Willemssen, of George, IA, on March 23, 1961, at the country Presbyterian Church near Rock Rapids, IA.     He and Vi farmed by Ireton, IA, for 10 years and then moved to a farm north of Pipestone, MN, where they farmed for 32 years.     Henry deeply loved his wife, Viola; his brother, Tony; his daughters and their spouses, and his precious grandchildren.     He is greatly loved by his family and will always be held dear to their hearts.     Henry also truly loved farming, fishing for bullheads, reading westerns – especially Louis L’Amour, listening to music – especially polka and Chet Atkins, and going for drives to look at the crops. He also enjoyed travel and he very much loved his pets.     He died Saturday evening, May 2, 2009, at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake, IA, of a heart attack after spending the day fishing with his wife. He was 79.     Henry is survived by his wife, Viola of Lakefield, MN; his four daughters and their husbands, Marsha and John Hamre of Rochester, MN, Lavelle and Rich McManimon of Sioux Center, IA, Lisa and Gary Erickson of Greenville, IL, and Myra Aberson and Matt BadHeartBull of Belgrade, MT, and his brother, Tony Aberson of Alton, IA. He is also grandfather to eight wonderful grandchildren, Alex and Amanda Hamre; Emory, Colton and Elise McManimon; and Ben, Rylee and Justin Erickson.     He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Betty.     Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at 11:00 a.m., at the Benson Funeral Home Chapel in Worthington, MN, with Rev. James Sickmeyer officiating. Casket bearers will be John Hamre, Rich McManimon, Gary Erickson, Matt BadHeartBull, Clayton Huisman, and Lynn Willemssen.  Burial will be in the Worthington Cemetery.Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2009, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Benson Funeral Home.
