Obituary for Henry Hugo Tims

Worthington, MN

Henry Hugo Tims, 98, was born on July 16, 1919 to Johannes (John) Tims and Adriana (Los) in Leeds Twp., Murray County, MN. He was the 8th of 15 children born into this family. Both parents had emigrated to the Dutch community of Slayton, MN from Holland.
Henry married Ruth Lanette Jorgensen on September 17, 1945 at the Danebod Lutheran Church in Tyler, MN.
In the 30's and early 40's Henry drove Greyhound Bus and transported inductees for US military service. He prided himself in his driving skills and most people were able to complete the punch lines of those memories. He also drove semi grain trucks. He and Ruth met while living in a boarding house in Fargo, where she was employed at the Land Bank. After the war they returned to working in Tyler, MN on his father-in-law's farm.
Using his gift of sales and being interested in animal nutrition he 'sold feed' in Avoca, Truman, Sherburn, Trimont, Ocheydan, IA and then Worthington, MN. With a growing family of his own, he supplemented their income by selling feeder pigs and confinement barns. A major cross-road occurred on New Year’s Eve '49' when he came to faith in Jesus Christ as his personal savior. That rearranged his focus and behavior as he became a student of God's Word, and instructed his children with his example. He retired from feed sales in 1985 but was a constant student of the Bible. He was a Sunday school teacher for years in the Worthington Assembly of God church where he also served as a board member. He read much, communicated with many, hosted people in their home constantly, encouraged their family and gave inspiration to strangers. He enjoyed the ministry of Billy Graham and enjoyed having music in the house all the time.
In 1996 Henry and Ruth took their first flight in a jet together and spent 10 days in Israel, on a Holy Land tour. In his retirement he and Ruth enjoyed traveling to family member's homes. Henry drove for People's Express and loved bringing people to medical appointments.
Henry passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 12, 2017, at St. Benedict’s Senior Center in St. Cloud, MN.
Henry is survived by Jim Bueling of Kiev, Ukraine, Charles (Judy) Tims of Fargo, Rich (Gretchen) Tims of Hastings, MN, Alan (Elna) Tims of St. Cloud, MN, Ken (Cathy) Tims of Gulfport, MS, Margaret (David) Klaassen, of Marquette, KS, Nancy (Hugh) Magill of Winnetka, IL, James (Lea) Tims of Washington, DC, and Robert (Donna) Tims of Worthington, MN; 38 grandchildren, and 38 great grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters, Gertrude (Arnie) Holmen of Mountain Lake, MN and Alice Grimmius of Mt. Vernon, WA, and brother, Rev. Bill (Dale Anne) Tims of Tulsa, OK.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth on March 21, 2008; his parents; granddaughter Stacey (Tims) Morgan; daughter-in-law Glenda, and 11 siblings.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 16, 2017, at 10:30 a.m., at Solid Rock Assembly in Worthington, MN, with Pastor John Nau officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Lake Wilson, MN.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 15, 2017, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington.
The family would love to thank all the care providers who have been instrumental in their services over the last several years.
