Obituary for Helen Hanna Sather

Helen Hanna Schroeder Sather, 90, was born October 5, 1920, in Sioux Valley Township, Jackson Co., MN, to August Jochim and Rosa Sophia Jacobsen Schroeder.Helen grew up in Ewington Township Jackson Co, MN. After school she moved to Round Lake to work at the Sather Store, where she met Kenneth Sather. They married July 7, 1940, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Worthington, MN. As a young bride and mother, Helen accompanied Kenneth to various Army Air Corps Bases. Together they founded the Sather Cookie Company. Helen and her children were actively involved in the business.   
    Helen’s greatest loves were her family and her church. She enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren grow up, and she was active in their lives. She always remembered and honored their birthdays, graduations, weddings and anniversaries. She cherished her great-grandchildren and was elated at having twin great-great-granddaughters. A highlight was the family pilgrimage to the Holy Land. Her love and faith have been at the heart of our family.  Her unselfish acts have been a reflection of her kindness and caring.  
    Helen was a member of the 1st Presbyterian Church at Round Lake, whose congregation was very dear to her. She served as an elder and in all areas and programs. She was co-chairman of the Building Committee in 1962-63. Helen was active in Monday afternoon Bible Study for many years and in Christian Women’s Club. Mission trips to Ukraine and Russia were important to her. Helen enjoyed her involvement in the     
    American Legion Auxiliary and the Senior Center.  She loved to garden and watch the birds. She was a member of the U&I Garden Club, sharing her joy of gardening, and being with friends.  
    Helen passed away Sunday, August 14, 2011 at Sunset Hospice Cottage, Worthington, MN
    Helen is survived by her six children: Mary Ann Sather, Round Lake, MN; Barbara (Karl) Hansen, Round Lake, MN; Duane (Diane) Sather, Sioux Falls, SD; John (Sandy) Sather, Round Lake, MN; Larry (Kathy) Sather, Spirit Lake, IA; and Rodney (Lynette Laird) Sather, Vivian, SD. 
    She is remembered by 15 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren and 2 great great granddaughters: Kristine (Charles) Jensen, children Matthew and Erik; Barbara (Ron) Lindenbusch, children Zachary, Nicole, and Lucas; Dana (Adam) Robinson, children Nicholas and Zara; David (Joan) Hansen, children Dena (Brian) Hinkle, (children Greta and Sophie) and Emily (Clay) Giddings; Eric Hansen and son Kyle; Daniel (Katrina) Sather, children Evan, Hannah and Olivia; Jennifer (Scott) Ellenbecker, children Logan and Mason; Kari (Lester) Mitchell, children Shae and Jada; Heidi (Mark) Ruesch, children Haley, Lexy & Madison; Damon (Stacey) Sather son Henry; Lisa (Kent) Hedtke, children Veronica and Racquel; John David (Lynne) Sather, children Wilson and Jaelyn; Michael (Le Ann) Sather, children Ellie, Emma, Drew, Ava; Matthew (Becci Christenson) Sather; Timothy (Jennifer) Sather. 
    Helen is also survived by two sisters and two brothers: Viola Johnson, Worthington, MN; and Evelyn Wendling, Round Lake, MN; Walter (Maxine) Schroeder, Hastings, MN; Leslie Schroeder, St. Cloud, MN. 
    Helen is preceded in death by Kenneth Sather, her parents, August and Rosa; brothers Harvey, Fredrick (“Fritz”), Harold and Melvin Schroeder; and her granddaughter Nicole.   
     Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 19 at the First Presbyterian Church Round Lake, MN at 10:30 AM, with Rev. Robert Bartlett officiating. Burial will be in the Worthington Cemetery, Worthington, MN.
