Worthington, MN


      Harry Wayne Lueck, age 94, was born on August 14, 1921, in Jackson County, MN, the son of Herman and Anna (Stude) Lueck. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church. Harry attended country schools for eight years. He helped his family farm until he entered the United States Army in 1942. Harry patrolled the beaches in California and served in Africa and Italy, receiving a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was discharged in 1945 and became a member of the American Legion. Harry married Leona Matilda Baerenwald on September 14, 1947, at St. Matthew’s parsonage in Worthington, MN. They farmed in the Brewster and Worthington area and raised two daughters. He served on the board of Nobles County Oil, and held various positions in his church and for the American Legion. He enjoyed farming, gardening, and traveling with his RV throughout the United States. Harry died on Wednesday, March 16, 2016, at the South Shore Care Center in Worthington, MN.

      Harry is survived by his wife, Leona of Worthington, MN; one daughter, Jolyn (Wayne) Hai of Liberty, MO, and four grandsons, Joshua (Lauren) Hai of Libertyville, IL, Jacob (Casey) Hai of Liberty, MO, Issac Trainor of Chaska, MN, and Caleb Trainor of Chaska, MN. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sheryl; an infant granddaughter, Nicole, his parents; eight brothers, and three sisters.

      Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2016, at 10:30 a.m., at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Brewster, MN, with Pastor David McDonald officiating. Casket bearers will be Issac Trainor, Caleb Trainor, Joshua Hai, Jacob Hai, Michael Baerenwald, and David Baerenwald. Burial, with military honors, will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Brewster.

      Visitation will be held on Friday, March 18, 2016, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington and also on Saturday, March 19, 2016, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Brewster.

      Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of the arrangements.
