     Harry Dale Pettit was born on December 14, 1918 in Everly, IA, the son of Thomas and Maude E. (Caskey) Pettit.  He attended school in Everly till the eighth grade and then joined the CCC's (Civilian Conservation Corp) to help out his family during the Depression.  On September 12, 1942, Harry was inducted into the Army/Air Corp at Camp Dodge, IA.  Harry was stationed at McCord Field, Washington, Pendleton Field, Oregon, Camp Stockton, California, Walla Walla, Washington, Sioux City, Iowa, Ogden and Kearns, Utah, and Seattle, Washington.  He later attended ordinance school in Anchorage, Alaska.  Harry served in the Aleutian, Islands with the 11 AAF (Army/Air Force), receiving the Good Conduct medal, the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon, and the Bronze Battle Star.
     On February 23, 1947, Harry was married to Beulah May Dayton of Spirit Lake, IA.  They farmed there for a time and later moved to Minnesota.  They eventually ended up north of Round Lake, MN, where he farmed with his animals and raised his family.  Retiring in Brewster, MN, and even after losing his wife Beulah in 86,  his son Tom in 87, and his daughter-in-law Connie Pettit, Harry remained on his acreage north of Brewster until December of 2008, when a serious accident ended him up in a nursing home in Worthington, MN.  From there it was decided it was time for a final move.  In 2009, he moved to outside of Dixon, MO with his daughter Teresa Reck and lived on the acreage.  There was one final move in December of 2011 to the Life Care Nursing Home, where he resided until his death on Friday, July 19, 2013.
     Harry loved his animals, especially horses.  He died at the St. Johns Hospital in Lebanon, MO at the age of 94.
     Harry is survived by his brother, Donald Pettit, Sebring, FL; sister, Clara Wieben, Spencer, IA; son, Terry Pettit, Story City, IA; daughter, Teresa Reck, Dixon, MO; seven grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.
     Memorial services will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2013, at 11:00 a.m., at the Benson Funeral Home Chapel in Worthington, MN.  Burial will be in the Worthington Memorial Gardens Cemetery next to his wife, Beulah and son, Tom.  Reception will follow at Benson Funeral Home in Worthington.
