Obituary for Harriet Louise Pfeil

Worthington, Minnesota      Harriet Louise Pfeil, 92, was born on May 18, 1914, in Marshall, Minnesota, the daughter of the late Reverend Frederick and Bertha Buscho Werner.  She spent most of her school years in Minneapolis.  Harriet graduated from Odessa High School and from Normal Training School in Ortonville, Minnesota.  After graduation, she taught for three years in Rural School District 39 in Nobles County.  Harriet married Maurice Pfeil on June 28, 1937, in Worthington, Minnesota.  After their marriage, they farmed in Bigelow Township, Nobles County, until 1964, when they moved to Worthington.  Harriet was a member of the Garden Club, Twentieth Century Club, and Project Club.  She was also involved as a Red Cross Volunteer.  An active member of her church, Emmanuel United Methodist, she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, played the organ, served on several boards, and was a participant in the women’s groups.  She also enjoyed gardening, Bingo, card games, reading, and crossword puzzles.  In 1998, she was named Nobles County Senior Citizen and represented the county at the state level.  Harriet died on Wednesday, October 11, 2006, at her home in Bloomington, Minnesota.      Harriet is survived by four daughters, Carolann Darling, of Minneapolis, MN, Beverly (Wayne) Doeden, of Burnsville, MN, Shirley (Murray) Doeden, of Chetek, WI, and Susan (Michael) Melcher, of Aurora, CO; nine grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice, in 1996, her parents, and two brothers, Harold and George Werner.     A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 2006, at 11:00 a.m., at the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Worthington, Minnesota, with the Rev. Gordon J. Orde officiating.  Casket/Honorary bearers will be Ryan Darling, Andrew Raedeke, Michael Purdy, Craig Doeden, Michael Delis, Paul Doeden, Michael Matovich, Christian Watts, and Blake Melcher.  Interment will follow the service at the Worthington Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 2006, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., at the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Worthington.  Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or Fairview Hospital Hospice.   Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of the arrangements.
