Worthington, MN


      Harold Robert King, age 87, was born on March 19, 1927, in Henryetta, OK, the son of Charles and Virgie (King) King. He grew up and attended school in Henryetta and also lived in California. At age 16, he was a certified Navy welder and later spray painted missile components parts for outer space. Harold married Betty Louise Booth in 1948. To this union were born daughters, Kathleen and Debra. They later divorced. Harold married Rosemary Koostra on June 27, 1971, in Phoenix, AZ. They moved to Oklahoma in 1972 and then to Minnesota in 1978. He worked with his father-in-law, Walter Koostra in the Minnesota seed bean business and farmed for many years.

      He loved his country and his God. He enjoyed good food, good friends, family, and Jesus. He was always available for friends and neighbors. His life was enriched by attending the Living Life Adult Day Care the past two years. Harold died on Sunday, December 7, 2014 at the Crossroads Care Center in Worthington, MN.

      Harold is survived by his wife, Rosemary Koostra King of Worthington, MN; daughters, Kathleen (Lani) Janisse of Hartford, VT and Debra (Larry) Cline of Hesperia, CA; 8 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings: Morgan, Maxine, Charles, Joe Berry, Jack, and Frank.

      The grandchildren and great grandchildren will gather at Christmas to share memories of his humor, compassion, generosity and wisdom.

      Blessed be his memory.

      Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 12, 2014, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Worthington, MN, with Pastor David McDonald officiating. Burial will be in the Worthington Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

      Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 11, 2014, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington and also from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 12, 2014, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Worthington.


In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Orphan Grain Train or charity of choice
