Obituary for Harold Lewis Hallstrom

Worthington, MN

     Harold Lewis Hallstrom, 91, was born on September 16, 1919, on the family farm in Bigelow Township in Nobles County. He was the son of Fred and Bessie (Larson) Hallstrom. Harold attended Sunny Hill Grade School through 8th grade. He worked on the family farm until he was drafted into the United States Army on February 10, 1942. During most of his military career, he was stationed at the Army Air Force Base at McDill Field, Tampa, FL. He married Marian Nelson on June 17, 1943, in Blue Earth, MN. In 1948, they purchased their current family farm in Indian Lake Township, where they remained until their retirement. He and Marian enjoyed many activities together including gardening, fishing, and traveling. He was an avid hunter. Harold was a lifelong member of the First Lutheran Church in Worthington, serving many years as an usher and on various committees. He was a member of the Round Lake Legion for over 50 years. Harold died peacefully on Thursday, September 8, 2011, at the Meadows.
     Harold is survived by his wife, Marian, of Worthington, MN; one son, Dallas (Deanna) of Mankato, MN; two daughters, Rhoda (Al) Lange of Rock Rapids, IA, and Abby (Mike) Hanson of Sioux Falls, SD; seven grandchildren, Todd (Shana) Venenga of Las Vegas, NV, Brent (Kristi) Venenga of Harrisburg, SD, Ryan (Dawn) Hallstrom of Rochester, MN, Rachel (Jason) Worwa of Cottage Grove, MN, Devon (Stephanie) Johnson, Cole Hanson, and Triston Hanson of Sioux Falls, SD; two great granddaughters, and four great grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Melvin and Arvid, and one infant grandson, Cameron.
     Memorial services, along with military rites, will be held on Monday, September 12, 2011, at 2:00 p.m., at the First Lutheran Church in Worthington, MN, with Rev. Richard Ricker officiating. Private family committal will be held in the Worthington Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 12, 2011, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., at the First Lutheran Church in Worthington.

Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of the arrangements.
