Obituary for Harold Hogan

Worthington, MN

     Harold Hogan, 92 years of age, died on March 8, 2013 at Hospice Cottage in Worthington.  Harold James Hogan was born Jan 24, 1921 to William (Bill) Hogan and Stella (Reha) Hogan in Lake Wilson, MN. At six years of age, the family moved to Brewster, MN where Harold attended school, participated in all high school sports and graduated in 1939. In 1939, the family moved to Worthington and Harold worked for Worthington Implement (John Deere) until enlisting in the US Coast Guard in 1942. He and Berdina Baumgard were married in Wildwood, NJ on July 9, 1943 in a double wedding with Jack and Elinor Griffith.  Harold served in the South Pacific Theater of Operations during WWII.  Harold returned to Worthington in 1945 and resumed employment at John Deere. In 1949, he began operating an Old Home bread route. In 1965, Harold joined AAL as a District Sales Representative where he worked until retirement in December 1985. He then served as Agency Coordinator of Volunteers for the next ten years.  Harold was an active member and leader of St. Matthews Lutheran Church.  Harold and Berdina enjoyed traveling, golfing, and dancing.
     Harold is survived by his wife Berdina; daughter Pam (Arvid) Ledin, Hudson, WI; son Jeffrey (Teresa) Hogan, Olympia, WA; son Mitchell (Barbara) Hogan, Worthington, MN; seven grandchildren; one great granddaughter; brother Larry Hogan (Marilyn), sister Lois Berns, sister-in-law Jean Hogan, and numerous nieces and nephews.  Harold was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters-in-law, Alan and Isabelle Hogan and Duane and Joan Hogan; brother Bill Hogan and brother-in-law Bob Berns.
     Services will be held on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Worthington, MN, with Pastor Tom Braun officiating.  Casket bearers will be Suzanne Boyum, Wade Ledin, Travis Hogan, Allyson Hogan, and Tyler Hogan.  Honorary bearers will be Brynn Hogan and Coleen Hogan.  Burial will be in the Worthington Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Benson Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 from 5-7 pm and also from 10-11 am at the church on Wednesday.
