Obituary for Harlan Roy Schneiderman

Worthington, MN

      Harlan Roy Schneiderman, 82, was born on a farmstead near George, IA to John and Bertha (Stubbe) Schneiderman on September 30, 1932. He attended country school in George until the 8th grade. Harlan worked on his family and neighboring farms and also at Sudenga Ford Motor Company until drafted into the U.S. Army. Corporal Schneiderman served his country in Korea from January 12, 1952 until his honorable discharge on December 24, 1954.

      Harlan returned to the George, IA area and worked at his brother’s service station. During this time, he met Ferne Lemke and the two were married on August 22, 1957 at the Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in rural Rushmore. The couple made their home in Worthington, MN where Harlan operated a gas station. In 1965, Harlan opened Harlan’s Tractor and Auto Repair in Rushmore, MN where he worked and played for 43 years; retiring in 2008.

      Harlan was quick-witted, a history buff and enjoyed reading, political discussions, and listening to music. He loved his family and treasured the time spent with his grandchildren. Harlan was an active member of Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in Rushmore where he served as an Elder, Deacon, and Sunday school teacher for many years before transferring his membership to First Covenant Church in Worthington. Harlan passed away on Monday, August 3, 2015, at the Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington, MN.

      Harlan is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Ferne; daughters Nancy (Howard) Hook and Lisa (Keith) Kennison; grandchildren Ivan Hook and Zach, Riley, Avry, and Brady Kennison, and brother Kenneth (Judy) Schneiderman. He was preceded in death by his twin infant sons; his parents, John and Bertha (Stubbe) Schneiderman; his brothers Krene, John, Bernard, Edwin, and Burdell; his sisters Tressa Schneiderman, Helen Abels, and Harriet Rust, and an infant sister; numerous nieces and nephews.

      Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2015, at 10:30 a.m., at the First Covenant Church, in Worthington, MN, with Pastor John Stewart officiating. Burial will be in the Ransom Township Cemetery in rural Worthington.

      Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 4, 2015, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington, MN.
