Obituary for Gladys Elizabeth Shade

Worthington, MN

     Gladys Elizabeth Shade, 95, was born on August 28, 1914, in Reading, MN. She was the daughter of Edward and Lena (Zimmerman) Jenkins. When her mother died from complications of child birth, her grandmother cared for her until her father remarried Kathryn Ferdinandt. She grew up in Worthington where she attended the local schools, graduating from Worthington High School in 1933. Gladys married Ray Albert Shade on March 22, 1939, in Worthington, where they made their home. She was an active member of the Worthington Christian Church and the Christian Women’s Fellowship. Gladys served as Sunday school superintendent for over 20 years and Sunday school secretary. She also taught Sunday school and release time classes. She enjoyed her church family, camping, fishing, flowers, reading, cooking, and baking. Gladys died on Monday, November 9, 2009, at the South Shore Care Center in Worthington, MN.
     Gladys is survived by one son, David (Idella) Shade of Sioux Falls, SD; two grandsons, David Lynn (Tammy) Shade and their children, Jacob and Anna of Chanhassen, MN, and James Allen (Kimberly) Shade and their children, Levi, Rachel, Isaac, and Judah of Casper, WY; one granddaughter, Diane Elizabeth (Shane) Galles and their child, Paige of Chandler, AZ; two brothers, Ken (Gloria) Jenkins of Worthington, MN, and Lee (Elaine) Jenkins, of Bigelow, MN, and two sisters, Edeth Jenkins of Worthington, MN, and Floretta (Bill) Mougenot of Vero Beach, FL. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and one sister, Belda Moret.
     Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 12, 2009, at 10:30 a.m., at the Worthington Christian Church in Worthington, MN, with Pastor James Shade and Pastor Ron Ahlgren officiating. Casket bearers will be Jacob Shade, Lee Shade, James Jenkins, Joel Jenkins, Jeff Jenkins, and Krayton Stenzel. Burial will be in the Worthington Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 11, 2009, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington.
