Obituary for Gilbert Post

Gilbert Wayne Post, son of John and Oleta (Mittelstadt) Post, was born on November 19, 1925, on his parents’ farm in Ewington Township, Jackson County, Minnesota. He was baptized in infancy, and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Rost Township. Gilbert grew up on the family farm and graduated from Okabena High School in 1942. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the Aviation Cadet Program, and was honorably discharged in 1945. He then returned home and received a Diploma in Aircraft Mechanics at Worthington Junior College in 1947.
Gilbert married Arline Mittelstadt on January 2, 1949 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brewster. Following their marriage, the couple farmed in Ewington Township. In 1954 Gilbert and Arline moved south of Lakefield where they farmed side by side for 43 years. In 1992 they moved to Worthington and joined St. Matthew Lutheran Church.
Gilbert was very active at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, holding many offices on the church council. He served on various Co-op boards, and was a long-time supervisor on the Hunter Township Board. He was a lifetime member of the Okabena American Legion.
Gilbert and Arline enjoyed traveling throughout Europe and the United States, spending winters in California. Gilbert enjoyed airplanes, camping, and meeting new friends all over the U.S. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Gilbert passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2019, at Lakeview Assisted Living in Heron Lake, MN at the age of 93 years.
He is survived by five children, Pam (Dennell) Vulcan of Nicollet, MN; Sheila (Mark) McBroom of Chatfield, MN; Terry (Gail) Post of Lakefield, MN; Brian (Melanie) Post of Lakefield, MN; and Brenda (Scott) Rosin of East Troy, WI; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, with twins arriving in November; and brother-in-law, Alvin Mittelstadt.
Gilbert was preceded in death by his wife, Arline; parents; three brothers, Arthur Dale, Hugo, and Clifford; and one sister, Marion.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2019, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Worthington, MN, with Pastor Mark Schreiber officiating and grandson, Tanner Post, assisting. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 18, 2019, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Worthington and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be held in the Worthington Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of the arrangements.
