Obituary for George William Duitsman

Worthington, Minnesota      George William Duitsman, 81, passed away on Tuesday, October 10, 2006, at the Worthington Regional Hospital in Worthington, Minnesota.  He was born on July 4, 1925, in Fonda, Iowa, the son of Frederick and Orilla (Sowles) Duitsman.  George attended school through the ninth grade in Worthington.  He then joined his dad on the West Coast to work in the shipyards.  George entered the United States Army in the early 1940’s and served as a paratrooper and radioman.  He was discharged in 1946.  George married Joyce Scott, of Worthington, on December 2, 1951, in Sibley, Iowa.  He worked for Band Box Cleaners and American Laundry.  After earning a Chief Boiler’s License, he worked for Campbell Soup Company in Worthington as a Chief Boiler Engineer for 25 years, retiring in 1989.  He loved hunting, fishing, reading the Bible, gardening, and being with family.     George is survived by his wife, Joyce, of Worthington, Minnesota; one son, Stephen (Cec) Duitsman, of Worthington; four daughters, Kathy Huber, of Worthington, Cindy (Marty) Waage, of Round Lake, Minnesota, Vicki Scarbrough, of Hixson, Tennessee, and Sheryl (Ronald) Sternke, of Worthington; 20 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren, and one sister, Audrey Fellman, of Staples, Minnesota.  He was preceded in death by one daughter, his parents, his grandparents, one sister, and one brother.     A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 13, 2006, at 11:00 a.m., at the Worthington Christian Church in Worthington, Minnesota, with Dan Beerman officiating.  Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin Bristow, Martin Waage III, Jason Haithcock, Aaron Haithcock, Andrew Sternke, and Jesse Sternke.  A private family burial will be held in the Worthington Cemetery.Visitation will be held on Friday, October 13, 2006, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., at the Worthington Christian Church in Worthington.  Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of the arrangements.
