Obituary for George Paul Fuerst

Sioux Falls, SD

     George Fuerst, age 74, of Sioux Falls, SD (formerly of Worthington, MN), died Thursday, September 15, 2011, at his home under hospice care. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, September 20, 2011, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Worthington, MN at 11:00 A.M.
     He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ava Marie “Babe” (Anderson), four children, John, Daniel, David (Timothy Lutz), Joel (Sarah), brother-in-law Harv Schaefer, sister-in-law Bernice (Frenchy) Trudeau, three grandchildren Shelby, Aidan and Zayne and many nieces and nephews.
     George was preceded in death by his parents, sisters’ Chris and infant Gladys and granddaughter Annie.
     He served in the South Dakota Army National Guard from 1957 – 1962. He graduated from Woonsocket High School, SD, received his BA from Huron College, Huron, SD and his Master’s Degree of Education at SDSU, Brookings, SD. He spent his career as a teacher / coach at Butte, NE, Gregory, SD, Worthington, MN and Sioux Falls, SD.
     He donated his organs for diagnostic research purposes of Multiple Myeloma or any cancer.
     George was a dedicated teacher, coach, piano tuner, musician, Kiwanis member, wonderful father and dear friend. His love for travel took him to Korea, Europe and many states. George loved his family, friends and students over the years. Before his passing and during his life he often expressed his love of his faith in God and the communities with which he worked. His big heart, fatherly love and friendliness will be missed by all who knew him.
