Obituary for Gene William Burns

Worthington, MN

     Gene William Burns, 76, of Worthington, died on Saturday, September 5, 2009, in Walker, MN. Born on November 26, 1932, in Nobles County, he was the son of James and Agnes Baumgard Burns. He married Garnet Brust on September 27, 1958, in Worthington.
     He attended school in Brewster, MN. Gene served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict from 1953-1955.
     Gene was in the auto body repair business working for Elmer Sauder, Sauder Paint and Body Shop for 20 years. He started his own business Burns Paint and Body Shop, which he operated until retirement, and then continuing on a part-time basis.
     He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, American Legion Post No. 608 of Okabena, and V.F.W. #3958 of Worthington.
     Gene enjoyed the great outdoors and outdoor activities of camping, fishing and hunting. He especially enjoyed spending summers at Pine Beach Resort on Garfield Lake at Laporte, MN. He always looked forward to a winter trip to Texas and other southern areas.
     Surviving are his wife, Garnet of nearly 51 years, Worthington; five sisters, Lois (Joseph) Kirchner, Wilmont, Carol Fauglid, Portland, OR, Janet (Roger) Jacobsen, Round Lake, Darlene (Jack) White, Rapid City, SD, Linda Cope, Darrington, WA; 15 nieces and nephews and numerous special in-laws and friends.
     Preceding him in death were his parents, James and Agnes Burns, Worthington, one brother, Donald Burns, Worthington, three sisters, Marlys Burmeister, Phoenix, AZ, Marcella Burns, Brewster, Arlene Burns, Brewster, and one nephew, Jeffrey Ziener, Worthington.
     Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2009, at 10:30 a.m., at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Worthington, MN, with Pastor Ken Honius officiating. Casket bearers will be Scott Burns, Kelly Burns, Michael Burns, Chad Kremer, Chris Kremer, and Gaylen Kruse. Burial will be in the Worthington Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at Benson Funeral Home in
Worthington and also 9:30-10:30 am on Thursday at the church.
