Obituary for Florence Lorene Koster

Round Lake, MN

Florence Koster, age 87, was born on December 30, 1925, on the farm near Iona, MN, the daughter of August and Louise (Hoppe) Kamrath.  She was baptized on January 17, 1926 at Iona Lutheran Church with sponsors Lena Kamrath and Edna Kleinder, and confirmed on June 25, 1937 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Rushmore by Rev. Lehoman.
Florence moved with her parents to rural Rushmore and later to Sioux Valley, MN.  She graduated from country school and took business courses at Worthington Junior College.  Florence worked on the farm and for several farm families in the Lakefield area.  During World War II, she was employed at Railroad Motors in Fairmont, MN.
Florence married George Koster on June 3, 1947, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux Valley, with Rev. Leiske officiating.  They farmed by Round Lake and she was employed in Worthington, first at Davidson Drugstore and for many years in the mail order department of Montgomery Wards.  George and she moved into Round Lake in 1980.  George passed away on June 17, 1987.  She was then employed by the Round Lake School and as a desk clerk for Days Inn in Worthington.
Florence was currently living at Halter Manor in Round Lake.  Florence and her husband were adult 4-H leaders for many years.  Together they loved to travel and had visited all 48 contingent states. She belonged to Good Neighbor Club, Jackson and Nobles County Extension, and was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church and Lutheran Women’s Missionary League.  Florence served as hostess of Round Lake Welcome Wagon and volunteered with the Blood Mobile.  For many years she was a hospice care giver.  She will most be remembered for church quilting projects and collecting teapots.
Florence’s biggest disappointment was not being allowed to attend high school and therefore, found joy in attending many graduation celebrations of children, grandchildren, relatives and friends.
Florence is survived by daughter Kathy and her husband, Don Craun, of Worthington; and son Dale and his wife, Roxanne (Doeden) Koster, of Round Lake.  Grandchildren Abbey (Joel) Craun Coady, Franklin, TN; Tony Craun (Celeste Malia), Foster City, CA; Kasey Craun, Denver, CO; Heather Koster (Steve), Carver, MN and Matthew (Lisa) Koster, Sauk Rapids, MN.  Five great-grandchildren: Lauren and Maya Coady, Turner and Ava Laxen, Shea Koster; sister Betty (Don) Hamann; brother Jim (Maybell) Kamrath; sister-in-law Ruth (John) Ruesche, and many relative and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband George, parents, sister Arlene Kamrath, brother and sister-in-law Melbourne and Irene Kamrath, Lakefield.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2013, at 10:00 a.m., at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Round Lake, MN, with Pastor Marvin Soulek officiating.  Casket bearers will be Court Baumgard, Jim Obermoller, Donnie Onken, Mike Rolph, Dan King, and Tom Voehl.  Burial will be in the Round Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington.
