Obituary for Evelyn Elizabeth Nels

Worthington, MN

     Evelyn Elizabeth Nels, 75, was born on January 3, 1934, in Ocheyedan, IA, the daughter of Henry and Elizabeth (Steenblock) Bottin. She grew up on a farm and attended school in Archer, IA. After school, she lived in Sheldon, IA, where she worked in the advertising department of the newspaper for many years. Evelyn was united in marriage to Jack Nels on December 4, 1968, in Sheldon. They moved to Fulda, MN, where they farmed until the early 1980’s. Evelyn and Jack were blessed with one child, Lucinda, born in 1972. They moved to an acreage near Reading, MN, where they lived until the late 1990’s and then moved to Worthington, MN. Evelyn was an active member and served faithfully at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses her entire life. She enjoyed spending time with her family and attending her granddaughter’s many activities. Evelyn also enjoyed spending time outdoors, gardening, flowers, music, her pets, reading, scenic drives around the lake, and spending time with her family at Cutty’s resort. She was a very loving, caring, and generous woman. Evelyn died on Saturday, October 10, 2009, at the Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington.
     Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Lucinda (Tom) Lemke of Sibley, IA; one granddaughter, Ashley Lemke of Sibley, IA; one sister, Marie (Albert) Donkersloot of Worthington, MN; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Bottin of Worthington, MN, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Nels in February of 2009; her parents, and one brother, Harold Bottin.
     Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2009, at 2:00 p.m., at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Worthington, MN. Graveside services will be held at 4:00 p.m. at the Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley, IA. Time with family and friends will be held at the Sibley Community Center following the burial.

Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of the arrangements.
