Obituary for Evelyn Ardis Elizabeth Janssen

Worthington, Minnesota
     Evelyn Ardis Elizabeth Janssen, was born on May 26, 1912, in Jackson County, MN, the daughter of Julius and Esther (Hanson) Habeck.  She was raised in that area and attended Ewington Township School.  Evelyn was married to John E. Janssen on January 14, 1931, at her parents’ home in Jackson County.  John and Evelyn ran the Spafford Country Store for a time with Evelyn’s parents.  They farmed from 1935 until 1975.  John died on February 23, 1988.  Evelyn lived in her home until March 19, 2008, when she entered the Lake Park Care Center in Iowa.  Evelyn died on Monday, December 29, 2008, at the Care Center at the age of 96.
     She was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church including Women of ELCA and the church quilting group.
     Evelyn is survived by her children, Ardyce (Augy) Scheppmann, of Spirit Lake, IA, Eunice (Merle) Baumgard, of Round Lake, MN, Terrence Janssen, of Worthington, MN, and Merle (Connie) Janssen, of Worthington, MN; son-in-law, Lloyd Kruse, of Okoboji, IA; 20 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren, and 11 great great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; daughter, Verda Kruse; two sisters, Ethel Janssen and Verda Milbrath, and brother, Donald Habeck.
     Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2009, at 2:00 p.m., at the Grace Lutheran Church near Worthington, MN, with Pastor Kristi Mitchell officiating.  Special music will be provided by the organist, Shirley King and the soloist, John Post.  Casket bearers will be Chris Janssen, Brent Baumgard, Troy Janssen, Richard Kruse, Kirby Baumgard, and Darin Kruse.  Burial will be in the Grace Lutheran Cemetery near Worthington.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of the arrangements.
