Obituary for Ethel Eugenia Carson

Worthington, Minnesota Ethel Eugenia Carson, 82, was born on February 18, 1924, in Nashville, TN, the oldest of five children. She was the daughter of Albert and Bertha Abney Jacobs. Ethel attended school in Annawan-Alba Township and graduated from Annawan High School. After graduation she did various jobs until she was 21 years old; at which time, she joined the United States Navy as a Hospital Corpsman. Upon her discharge, she entered nurses training in Chicago, IL. Ethel married H.B. Carson in July of 1951. She worked at Michael Reese Hospital and then secured a position at East Moline State Hospital. She remained there until it closed and then went to work at Galesburg State Hospital in Galesburg, IL, until it closed. Ethel then worked as a supervisor at Peoria Mental Health Center, where she remained until her retirement, serving the state of Illinois for 26 years. After retiring, she moved to Worthington, MN, to be close to her family. She lived in Worthington for 13 years until entering Arnold Memorial Health Care Center in Adrian, MN, in 2003. Ethel was a member of the Indian Lake Baptist Church, where she was baptized as a public profession as having accepted Christ as her personal Savior. At church she participated in Time-Out Ladies and was well known for her pecan pies. While she loved to cook, bake, read, and crochet, her family was what was most important in her life. Ethel died on Wednesday, April 19, 2006, at the Arnold Memorial Health Care Center in Adrian. Ethel is survived by one son & daughter-in-law, Michael & Carey Carson, of Worthington; three grandchildren, Amy (Garret) Wall, of Mountain Lake, MN, Capt. Isaac Carson, of Fort Lee, VA, and Katie (Aaron) Milbrath, of Sioux Falls, SD; five great grandchildren, Tanner Braun (Wall), Saige Wall, Wyatt Wall, Kearney Wall, and Layne Wall, of Mountain Lake; one sister, Mildred Carter, of Annawan, IL, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Waldo Jacobs, and two sisters, Frances Hansen and Lucille Lusk. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2006, at 10:30 a.m., at the Indian Lake Baptist Church near Worthington, MN, with Pastor Doug Roth officiating. Casket bearers will be Doug Wolter, Don Olson, Richard Greve, Marlyn Nystrom, John Nordell, and Chuck Nystrom. Burial will be in the Indian Lake Baptist Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 21, 2006, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington, Minnesota.
