Obituary for Ernest Carl Steffen

Worthington, Minnesota      Ernest Carl Steffen, 98, was born on September 19, 1908, in Round Lake, Minnesota, the son of Ferdinand and Alvina (Kasch) Steffen.  He grew up on a farm near Round Lake.  Ernest married Lida Beerman on July 30, 1939, in Brewster, Minnesota.  They farmed near Brewster until 1972.  They moved to Round Lake and then moved to the Atrium in Worthington in 1980.  Lida passed away on March 21, 1987.  Ernie continued to live at the Atrium until December 1, 2005, when he moved to the South Shore Care Center in Worthington.  He was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Brewster, serving on the financial board and belonging to the Men’s Club.  He was a current member of the American Lutheran Church in Worthington.  Ernie was named Outstanding Senior Citizen of Nobles County in 1987.  One of his favorite pastimes was playing cards.  Ernie died on Wednesday, August 8, 2007, at the South Shore Care Center in Worthington, Minnesota.     Ernie is survived by one son, Duane (Mary) Steffen, of New London, Minnesota; two daughters, Loretta Palmer, of Lakefield, Minnesota, and Marilyn (Vern) Meyer, of Worthington, Minnesota; 11 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren, and one sister-in-law, Laura Steffen, of Princeton, Minnesota.  He was preceded in death by his wife, 5 sisters, 1 brother, and his parents.     Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2007, at 10:30 a.m., at the American Lutheran Church in Worthington, Minnesota, with the Rev. Richard Ricker officiating.  Casket bearers will be Kelly Meyer, Randy Palmer, Stacy Steffen, Shelby Steffen, Shad Steffen, and Bob Otterson.  Burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Brewster, Minnesota.  Visitation will be held on Friday, August 10, 2007, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington, Minnesota.
