Elvera Ruth Koster, 93, was born February 2, 1920, in Sioux Valley to parents, William and Marie (Christoffer) Meyer. She grew up on the family farm, attended country school, and graduated from Sioux Valley High School in 1938. On June 16, 1940, she was united in marriage to Elvin Huehn at Sioux Valley Lutheran Church, and they moved into their new home in Round Lake. Elvera was a homemaker, then was employed by Sather’s in Round Lake and later by Wolff’s Department Store in Worthington. She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, Round Lake, teaching Sunday school and active in Ladies Aid. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Elvera enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting, and her friends at the Round Lake Senior Center. She also loved to travel. She spent winters in Texas and Arizona and took a memorable motor home trip to Alaska. She will be remembered for her smile and love for her family. Elvin (Al) passed away September 14, 1977. Elvera married Leo Koster on January 27, 1979 at Bethel Lutheran Church. They farmed for 5 years and then moved to Round Lake. After Leo passed away on November 3, 2003, she remained in her home until July, 2010, when she moved to The Meadows in Worthington. In October, 2012, she moved to South Shore Care Center, where she passed away March 28, 2013.
Elvera is survived by her children: Gayle (Carmen Schuld) Huehn, Round Lake, Richard “Dick” Huehn, Minneapolis, and Sandra (John) Sather, Round Lake, and Leo’s children: Roxane Koster, Round Lake, Sandi (Jim) Obermoller, Round Lake, Susie (Jeff) Winters, Lakefield and Linda (Dudley) Schmidt, Round Lake; 15 grandchildren: Michael, Debra, Michelle, Kari, Lisa, John, Dawn, Travis, Scott, Sara, Mark, Mike, Michelle, Andrew and Bobbi; 23 great-grandchildren, and by her sister, Dorothy Place, Windom.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, one step-son, Steve Koster, 3 brothers, Raymond, Herman, and Alvin, and 1 sister, Tracy Hamann.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at 10:30 a.m., at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Round Lake, MN, with Pastor Marvin Soulek officiating. Casket bearers will be Michael Schanno, John Sather, Andrew Schmidt, Travis Koster, Scott Obermoller, and Mark Obermoller. Burial will be in the Round Lake Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 1, 2013, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington, MN.
