Obituary for Ella Mae Sall

Worthington, MN

Ella Mae Sall, age 98, of Worthington, MN died Monday April 29, 2013 at Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington, MN.  She was born February 27, 1915 and was adopted as an infant by loving parents, Eric and Bella Pladson Olson on April 17, 1915.  She graduated from Worthington Senior High School in 1933 and attended Principia College.
Ella Mae said her childhood was reasonably happy, but after her marriage she experienced true happiness.  She was united in marriage to Kenneth Sall on October 3, 1936 at The Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.  They made their home in Worthington and had five children.  After Kenny retired, they spent twenty winters in Arizona and summer months at their home on Lake Okabena.  This was a relaxing and rewarding time, making new friends and becoming closer to longtime friends from home.
Ella Mae belonged to Westminster Presbyterian Church, P.E.O Chapter BT, Order of Eastern Star, Round Table Club, and many bridge clubs.   She was a member of the Peace Pipe Girl Scout Council, Girl Scouts of America, was a member of the first Girl Scout troop in Worthington.  She was a Girl Scout leader for many years and served on the board of the Y.M.C.A.  Ella Mae was a dear friend to many for decades.  As an only child, friends were like family to her.
Ella Mae is survived by one son, Rodney Sall, of Roseville, MN; daughters Becky (Sam) Casper, of Huron, SD; Starr (Lon) Standafer of Worthington.  Grandchildren Kent Sall, Jenny Sall, Debbie Tretsven, Scott Graham, Susan Davies, Amy Graham, Samuel Casper, Matt Casper, Joey Casper, Angela Standafer, Jake Standafer , Monica Zurek; and 20 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, daughters Susan and Mary; daughter-in-law, Karen and infant grandson Andrew.  The saddest time in her life was when Susan died at age seven just one month after being diagnosed with aplastic anemia.  Her greatest joy was being grandmother to twelve and great-grandmother to more.
Ella Mae said that she "must have done something right."  She was married to a man she loved for more than sixty-five years.  She lived "a very blessed life." She and Kenny raised four children she was crazy about, and she never went hungry.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, May 3, 2013, at 11:00 a.m., at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Worthington, MN, with Pastor Jonah Beckermann officiating.  Ella Mae Sall will be buried in a private service at the Worthington Cemetery.

Visitation on Thursday, May 2, 2013, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington, MN.
