Obituary for Eleanor Julia Baumgarn

Worthington, Minnesota      Eleanor J. Baumgarn, 93, was born on May 8, 1913, in Sioux Valley, Minnesota, the daughter of Ben and Amelia Thielvoedt Schoellerman.  She graduated from Sioux Valley High School.  After graduation, she attended Nettleton College and then assisted her parents as bookkeeper in the Sioux Valley Store.  Eleanor married Lester Baumgarn on August 27, 1936, in Round Lake, Minnesota.  After her parents moved to Lake Park, she and Lester ran the Sioux Valley Store.  They then farmed in that area for eighteen years and were members of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux Valley.  Later they moved to Okabena, Minnesota, where she was an active member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.  Eleanor taught Sunday school and bible class in both churches.  After her husband passed away, she moved to the Okabena Towers in Worthington, Minnesota.  Eleanor died on Wednesday, September 27, 2006, at the Worthington Regional Hospital.     Eleanor is survived by three children, Byron (Marlene) Baumgarn, of Sioux Valley, Minnesota, Pastor Jack (Carol) Baumgarn, of St. Francis, Minnesota, and Janice (Pat) Cervantes, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; seven grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Ray (Judie) Baumgarn, of Worthington, Minnesota, and one sister-in-law, Luella Baumgarn, of Loveland, Colorado.  She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.     Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2006, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Worthington, Minnesota, with Rev. Wayne Krohe and Rev. Ronald Yungmann officiating.  Casket bearers will be Lowell Baumgarn, Tim Baumgarn, Michael Baumgarn, David Baumgarn, Joseph Baumgarn, Philip Baumgarn, and Jennifer Anderson.  Burial will be in the Sioux Valley Cemetery in Sioux Valley, Minnesota.   Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2006, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Worthington.Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of the arrangements.
