Obituary for Edwin Vincent Carlson

Spirit Lake, IA
    Edwin Vincent Carlson, 87, was born on December 16, 1921, in Worthington, MN, the son of Ole and Isabelle (Anfinson) Carlson.  He was raised in Worthington and was drafted in 1942. While at Camp Carson he  married his high school girlfriend, Maxine Jones in Colorado Springs, CO on May 7, 1943. He served in the United States Army during World War II, landing on Omaha Beach and was proud of his service in the Battle of the Bulge.  After his military service they returned to Worthington where Edwin worked for Mahlberg Alignment for several years and then worked for Nobles County Coop Oil, retiring in 1984.  Edwin and Maxine moved to Spencer, IA, to be close to their daughter, Nancy. While in Spencer, Edwin worked at the Super Wash.  In 1996 they  moved to Spirit Lake, IA, where Edwin enjoyed spending time in his woodworking shop. Along with woodworking he enjoyed golfing and fishing.   He spent the last several years at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne where he met many new friends. Edwin died on Thursday, November 26, 2009, at the Royal C. Johnson Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.
     Edwin is survived by his wife, Maxine Carlson of Luverne, MN; one daughter, Nancy (Jerry) Wagener of Spirit Lake, IA, and two grandchildren, Danny (Natalie) Wagener of Des Moines, IA, and Tony Wagener of Minneapolis, MN.  He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and three sisters.
     Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 30, 2009, at 10:30 a.m., at the First Lutheran Church in Worthington, MN, with Rev. Richard Ricker officiating.  Casket bearers will be Jerry Wagener, Tony Wagener, Danny Wagener, Doug Mahlberg, Buck Underwood, and Rick Jones.  Burial will be in the Worthington Cemetery.
    Visitation will be held on Monday, November 30, 2009, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., at First Lutheran Church in Worthington, MN.

Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of the arrangements.
