Obituary for Douglas Frank LeRoy Hunt

Douglas Frank Leroy Hunt, 75, was born December 11, 1940 in Watertown, SD to C. Wayne and Louise Hunt. He was raised in and around several Navy bases until settling in Sioux Falls, SD in which he went to and graduated from Washington High School.
He joined the Navy in 1960 and served on the USS Lexington CV-16, Blue Ghost until 1962 and serving an additional 2 years in the reserves. He joined the Minnesota Army National Guard in 1973 and did his duties in Worthington, MN until 1992 when he retired. Total time in honorable service for his country was 23 faithful years.
In July 12, 1963, he married Lois Ann Henning in Pipestone, MN. They moved to Worthington, MN and raised their four children, Michel (Denise) Hunt, Laurie Ann (Don) Meyer, Pamela (Terry) Fletcher, and Scott (Donna) Hunt.
He was a hard worker starting at a young age delivering newspapers, a two year tour in the Navy, and then he worked for Campbell Soup in his beginning years in Worthington, MN for 8 years until becoming the custodian of St. Matthew Lutheran Church for 17 years. While retired he was once again working as a security guard at Campbell Soup for another year. He was a dedicated and determined community leader while contributing as Cubmaster and turned his attention making Boy Scout Troop 134 into a successful troop and maintained his position as Scoutmaster for 12 years.
In owning his own home, he enjoyed his doing it yourself remodeling projects getting his wife and children involved. These projects weren’t considered work to him but building a home you could “call home”. He became a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in 1972 and was a faithful member since. His happiest moments were of having so many of his grandchildren and great grandchildren around spending time camping, fishing, hunting, and going to different places in his travels. He also enjoyed singing Christmas carols with his wife. Celebrating birthdays, and enjoying his family togetherness was always his passion. Doug died on Saturday, October 8, 2016, at the Minnesota Veteran’s Home in Luverne, MN.
