Obituary for Douglas Edward Wallace

Worthington, Minnesota     Douglas Edward Wallace, 85, was born on September 18, 1921, in New York Mills, Minnesota.  He was the son of David and Nellie Wallace, who emigrated from Glasgow, Scotland, in 1913.  Doug attended school in New York Mills, and graduated in 1941 from Maple Lake High School.  He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Corp, and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1945.  Doug married Kathryn Krampitz, of Buffalo, Minnesota, on June 30, 1943, in Maple Lake.  He served as Assistant Manager of Wright-Hennepin Rural Electric Cooperative of Maple Lake from 1946-1956.  Doug then served as General Manager of Nobles Cooperative Electric in Worthington, Minnesota, from 1956-1986.  In 1986, he retired after also serving in various leadership positions for rural electric cooperatives at the state level.  Doug was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, where he was an elder and served as clerk of the session.  He was also a member of the American Legion, Masons, Shriners, Kiwanis, and the Worthington Country Club.  In 2001, Doug became a resident of the Crossroads Care Center in Worthington, where he passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2006.  Dear husband and loving father, we will all miss his friendship, compassion, and sense of humor.     Doug is survived by his wife of 63 years, Kathryn, of Worthington, and one son, Richard (Julie) Wallace, of Dallas, Texas.  He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Robert, Clarence, and David, and one sister, Elizabeth.     Memorial services will be held on Friday, October 20, 2006, at 2:00 p.m., at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Worthington, Minnesota, with the Rev. Jim Krapf officiating.  Interment will be held at a later date in the Sunset Memorial Gardens in Minneapolis, Minnesota.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.   Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of the arrangements.
