Obituary for Dorothy Mae Shore

Dorothy Mae Shore, age 91, was born on May 30, 1924, in Worthington, MN, the daughter of Virgil and Belle (Ray) Luing.  She attended grade school at District 76 in rural Worthington and high school in Worthington.  Dorothy was married to Lynn VanDerWerff for 54 years.  Dot and Lynn moved to Barnum, MN, in the late 50’s.  She became a beautician and had her own beauty shop.  Dorothy was an active member of the Barnum United Methodist Church, being a member of the choir, taught Sunday school, active on the church board and women’s society.  She was also active in the community.  She was involved in the Barnum Area Community Club, volunteered at the school, and became the Mayor of Barnum.  She sold Tupperware and enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins.  She loved sewing, quilting, crocheting, and stitchery of any kind.  She also loved to cook, make pies, and fry bread.  Dorothy married Robert Shore on November 20, 1999, in Barnum, MN.  Dorothy died on Monday, June 22, 2015, at the Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington, MN.
     Dorothy is survived by her husband, Bob Shore of Worthington, MN; children, Donald (Judy) VanDerWerff of Thompson, MN, Doris (Rod) Dahl of Barnum, MN, and Virgil (Dawn) VanDerWerff of Cloquet, MN; step children, Jerry (Helen) Shore of Owatonna, MN, Tom (Ruth) Shore of Worthington, MN, Alma (Verlyn) Wieck of Omaha, NE, and Jim (Julie) Shore of Worthington, MN; son-in-law, Kenny Duesler of Barnum, MN; 13 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren, and brothers, Bob Luing of Mahtowa, MN, Alfred Luing of Worthington, MN, and Gary Luing of Wisconsin Rapids, WI.
     She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lynn VanDerWerff; her parents; son, Larry VanDerWerff; daughter, Lynda Duesler, and sisters, Vivian and Mary.
      Memorial services will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2015, at 1:30 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Worthington, MN, with Rev. Irwin Van Leeuwen officiating.  Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2015, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Worthington. 
     Memorial services will also be held on Monday, June 29, 2015, at 12:00 p.m., at the Barnum United Methodist Church in Barnum, MN, with a visitation being held one hour prior to the service.  Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Barnum, MN.
     Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of the arrangements.
