Obituary for Dorothy Arlene Adolph

Dorothy Arlene Adolph, 78 of Reading, MN died February 11, 2011 at the Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington, MN after a short battle of stage 4 lung cancer.  

Born April 25, 1932 at home in Barnum, MN.  She was the third daughter of Christian (C.H.) and Ruth Schwoch Nelson, and married Alfred Adolph March 19, 1953.
She attended school in Barnum, MN. Dorothy loved being a homemaker and farm partner with Alfred. She was a lifetime member and very active in the Church of the Brethren.  She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, outside in her garden and yard, hunting small game with her .22 caliber rifle and Chico (her dog).  She shared her care and compassion through letter writing, praying and helping others in many different ways.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Dean (Martha) Adolph, Bloomington, MN;   daughters Ida (Steffen) Van Westen, Reading, MN; Cindy (Bruce) Duba, Worthington, MN.  Grandchildren:  Sarah (Brad) Shepler, Amy Adolph, Stacy (Brandon) Wolf, Becky (Matthew) Flannigan, Brandon Van Westen, Colleen (Joseph) Wichern and Laura Duba.  Great-grandchildren: Grace Flannigan and Jason Wolf.  Sisters: Myrtle (Lyle) Adolph, Viola Lursen, brother’s-in-law: Willis (Marvella) Adolph, Myron (Janet) Adolph, sister-in-law: Carol (Terry) Hanna, uncle Edward Schwoch.   Preceded in death by her husband on March 14, 2003, her parents, sisters: Marian (Carl) Patterson and Margaret Nelson, and brother-in-law Clarence Lursen.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, February 14, 2011 at the Worthington Church of the Brethren.  Paul Gonzalez will officiate. A private family burial at the Elk Brethren Cemetery will precede the Memorial Service with Dorothy’s grandchildren as casket bearers.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
Visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Sunday, February 13, 2011 at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington.
