Obituary for Dorothy Alice Aaser

Worthington, MN

Dorothy Alice (Duba) Aaser, 78, was born on July 5, 1936, on her parent’s farm between
Hankinson and Lidgerwood, ND. She was the daughter of William and Alice (Winje) Duba. She
grew up and attended a one-room school in Moran Township taught by her mother. She graduated
valedictorian from Lidgerwood High School in 1954 and went on to get her teaching certificate from
Valley City State Teacher’s College. She taught 3rd grade in Lakota, ND where she met and
married (June 30, 1957) Martin Aaser. They had three children before moving to Worthington, MN in 1968.

Dorothy was known for her love of music and her passion to bring the joy of music into the lives
of others. She taught piano lessons and was an accompanist starting as a teenager through her
retirement. She enjoyed being the church organist at American Lutheran Church and accompanied
the Chancel Choir for many years. She joined the First Arizona Banjo Band on the keyboard and
enjoyed performing with them. Martin and Dorothy were known for their dancing. They started
this in their courtship and continued into their retirement. Many remember them
dancing the polka like pros!

The other passion in her life was teaching. She valued children and brought her gentle and
patient personality to helping many students reach their potential. She continued to volunteer
in a grade school where they wintered in Mesa, Arizona. Dorothy was involved in the community
with the Lioness club, Eastern Star where she served as Grand Organist of MN in 1994-95, church
circle, and was active in her Arizona retirement community.

Dorothy always treated others with respect and she then was happiest when she was able to put
another before herself. She loved her Savior and reflected His love in all she did. She taught all of
us in the most gentle way and we will miss her dearly every day. She died on October 9, 2014 at
Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda, MN after a 2 ½ year battle with cancer. She was graceful in
life and graceful in death. She is survived by her family: the love of her life of 57 years, Martin
Aaser; 3 children, Dean (Shelly) Aaser of Knoxville, TN; Joanne (Hal) Tucker of Storm Lake, IA;
Holly (Clint) Anderson, of Snohomish, WA; 8 grandchildren, Beth Aaser, Douglas Aaser, Eric
Aaser, Nathan (Amanda) Tucker, Erin (Tyler) Mock, David Tucker, Ethan Anderson, and Emily
Anderson;  One brother, Norman (Kayla) Duba and extended family and friends. She was preceded
in death by her parents, and beloved relatives.

Service of celebration will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at American
