Obituary for Donna Marie Peters

Worthington, Minnesota      Donna Marie (Heig) Peters, age 75 passed away on Saturday, November 3, 2007, at the Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington, Minnesota.     Donna was born on March 13, 1932, in Worthington, Minnesota, the daughter of Oscar and Olga (Broten) Heig.  She married Dale C. Peters on September 21, 1952, in Worthington.     Donna was raised in Worthington, attended and graduated from Worthington High School in 1950.  While going to high school during the summer she spent several years as a life guard and taught swimming lessons at Chautaqua Park in Worthington.  She continued to teach swimming lessons at the YMCA pool for many years.  From 1950 - 1952, she attended and graduated from Mankato State College and taught school for 10 years in Bigelow, Minnesota.  She and Barbara Hagen started the “Hi Ho Nursery School” in Worthington in 1965.     In January of 1967, Donna joined her husband at the Nobles County Sheriff’s Office as matron and cook which she continued for 28 years.     Upon retirement in December of 1994, she and her husband continued to operate a small Thoroughbred horse farm on the east edge of Worthington.     Donna was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Worthington, where she was a Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Church School Superintendent and also taught Weekday Church School for many years.     Donna is survived by her husband, Dale, of Worthington; one daughter, Barbara Cook, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; two grandsons, Ben and Nick; two sisters, Elinor and Janice, and brothers-in-law, nephews, and nieces.  She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Barbara Heig.     Memorial services will be held on November 6, 2007 at 12:00 p.m., at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Worthington, Minnesota, with the Rev. Jim Krapf officiating.  Honorary bearers will be grandsons, Ben and Nick Cook, brothers-in-law, Harvey Kienholz and Jack Griffith, nephews, Jerry Griffith and Don and Dean Kienholz, grand nephews, Brody and Brett Bjornstad and Brad and Bryan Voss, very dear friends, Burt Levine, Paul Hagen, Frank Kruse, and Kelly Gorder, and godson, Dan Tow.  Private burial of her cremains will be held in the Worthington Cemetery.Benson Funeral Home is coordinating the arrangements.
