Obituary for Donald Leonard Baumgartner

Donald Leonard Baumgartner was born on Friday, August 25, 1944 in Adrian, MN, the son of Andrew William and Cecelia Ann (Brennan) Baumgartner. Don was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic Faith. He attended St. Kilian Catholic School until the 8th grade and then went to Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic School in Wilmont, graduating in 1963. After graduating from high school, Don worked in the maintenance department at Campbell’s in Worthington. In 1965, Don enlisted in the United States Air Force. His focus in the Air Force was the telecommunications. He was deployed to go serve in the Vietnam War, being stationed in Thailand. Don retired from the Air Force in 1969. On June 3, 1966, Don was united in marriage to Imelda Feller in Gettysburg, SD. They were blessed with 4 children. Don and Imelda made their home together with their children in Worthington. During this time, he worked maintenance for Campbell’s, Swift and other miscellaneous places. In 2016, Don and Imelda moved to Brewster, MN. Over the last couple of month’s Don’s health started to decline. Don was surrounded by his family when he passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2019, at the age of 74 years, 6 months and 15 days.
Don was a member of the St Mary’s Catholic Church in Worthington. Don enjoyed his sports. Starting as a child he was playing baseball in his back yard, later playing on the Wilmont baseball team. Don was quite the golfer. If it was nice out, you would count on him being on some golf course shooting a couple of rounds. On Sunday’s, no matter what was going on, if the Vikings were playing you could find him right in front of the TV. Don also enjoyed being outdoors. He would hook up his boat and go fishing for a couple of hours, go hunting when in season and come spring it was time to start planning on how big the garden was going to be for the year. He had a green thumb like no one else. The garden was a great way for Don to be around his children, and grandkids. Don was the guy that you could go to for anything. He would help anyone out if he was able or was always there for some words of wisdom. Don’s greatest achievement in his life was his family. He loved his family with his whole heart, spending as much time with them as he could. There was never a quiet day at their house.
Donald is survived by his wife of 52 years, Imelda; son, Donnie (Melissa) Baumgartner of Round Lake, MN; daughter, Bobbi (Wayne) Music of Lakefield, MN; brother, Virg (Marge) Baumgartner of Worthington, MN; sister, Joyce (Ray) Ebbers of Worthington, MN; twelve grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents; son, Andrew Baumgartner; daughter, Donata Baumgartner, and three brothers, Pat Baumgartner, Bob Baumgartner, and Jerry Baumgartner.
