     Donald Edward Buss, 78, was born Donald Robert Smedberg on January 9, 1932, in Hennepin County, MN, the son of Mildred Smedberg. He was adopted by Fred and Emma (Bakker) Buss from Owatonna in December of 1933, that was when his name was changed to Donald Edward Buss. Don attended grade school and high school in Worthington, MN.
     Don married Lorraine May Beckmann on December 6, 1950, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church. He went into the National Guard in 1952 and into the Army in 1955. Don was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Fort Belvoir to go to school for water purification, Fort Campbell, KY, and then went to Korea for a year. He was discharged in January of 1957.
     Don worked for the Worthington Rendering Company for three years in the plant. After returning from the service, he returned to the Rendering Company to work in the feed house and then drove truck for 17 years. He then worked for the Propane Company for the next 22 years. He retired in January of 1994 and continued to work part time until April of 1996. He then went to work part time for a gas station until May 1, 2001. Don was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Worthington and taught Sunday school for several years. He enjoyed camping, family, and yard work. Don died on Saturday, January 1, 2011, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne, MN.
     Don is survived by his wife, Lorraine Buss of Worthington, MN; two sons, Steven (Colleen) Buss of Beresford, SD, and Dean (Von) Buss of Monroe, OR, along with Richard (Carolyn) Cink; thirteen grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; six sisters and two brothers, Jerome Fehringer of Minneapolis, MN, Joyce Savage of Mesa, AZ, Joane Savage of Payson, AZ, Jean Knoblauch of Garrison, MN, June Haberle of East Bethel, MN, Judy Sankey of Fridley, MN, Joseph Fehringer of Brooklyn Park, MN, and Janice Duncan of Brooklyn Park, MN. He was preceded in death by his son, Dennis, biological mother, and adopted parents.
     Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Worthington with Rev. Tom Braun officiating. Casket bearers will be Mike Smith, Mike Elter, Josh Buss, Michael Buss, Jeremy Buss, Scott Flewelling, and Andrew Jandert. Honorary bearers will be Joshua Van Leuven and Ryan Van Leuven. Burial, with military rites, will be in the Worthington Memorial Gardens Cemetery. .

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 7, 2011, at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington.
