Obituary for Dolores Ardell Amundson

Dolores Ardell Amundson was born on December 21, 1914 in West Union, Carver County, Minnesota, the daughter of Frank and Elin (Johnson) Nord. She grew up in Reading, Minnesota and attended Worthington Schools. Dolores was married to Cyril Amundson in Duluth, Minnesota on August 8, 1941. They made their home in Worthington.
After earning her teaching certificate, Dolores taught kindergarten and elementary school students. She started her career teaching in a “one room” school house and spent most of her teaching career in the Worthington School District until she retired. Dolores remained active in the community throughout her life. She was an active member of the Worthington Tourist Club, Worthington 8:30 Club and the Worthington Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of The First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Worthington, where she was confirmed on June 15, 1930. Each year she made custom stoles for the church’s confirmands. The 2017 stoles were completed by Dolores and her sister Dorothy.
Summers at “the lake” were an important part of Dolores’ life and Amundson family memories. As her boys were growing up, summers were spent with family and friends in Detroit Lakes. For the past 30 years, Dolores and Dorothy have spent summers with family at Lake Irene in the Alexandria Lakes Area. Dolores passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at the South Shore Care Center in Worthington, MN.
Dolores is preceded in death by her husband Cyril, brother Evans Nord, granddaughter Sarah Amundson, and great-grandson Elliot Kutzbach.
She is survived by her sister Dorothy Nord of Worthington; her sons Craig (Kris) Amundson of Coon Rapids, and Bruce (JoAnn) Amundson of Worthington; grandchildren: Jen (Jeff) Mischke, Paul (Shannon) Amundson, Laurie (Kyle) Schroeder, Brian Amundson, Cy (Jenna Lowhorn) Amundson, Greg (Lindsay Knott) Amundson, Janet Amundson, June (Ryan) Landburg, Ariel (D. Khaoon) Amundson, Janene (Jon) Heidorn, Jess Saxon and Emily (Jon) Garza. She is also survived by 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She is loved and will be missed by all of us.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at 11:00 a.m., at the First Lutheran Church in Worthington, MN, with Pastor Jeanette McCormick officiating. Burial will be in the Worthington Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
