Obituary for Dick DeHoogh

Dick William DeHoogh was born July 27, 1920 in Boyden, Iowa. The youngest of six sons of Theodore C. and Adriana (Oranje) DeHoogh, he grew up and attended school in Sheldon, Iowa.

Dick married Jessie Janet Ras on September 2, 1945 in Slayton, Minnesota.  The couple farmed in Sheldon, Iowa before moving to      Worthington. They later farmed the Ras family farm in Fulda before returning to Worthington. For many years, Dick worked as a meat cutter for Red Owl, Schafer Finer Foods and prior to retirement at Armours. After retirement, Dick and Jessie moved to Sioux Falls in 1981 until they moved to Faribault in 2000. After Jessie’s death on December 30, 2006, he resided with his eldest daughter in her home until his death.

Dick and Jessie enjoyed traveling and camping throughout the continental United States.  They also traveled with friends and relatives to Hawaii, Europe, Mexico and the Caribbean Islands.  They found pleasure in visiting their farms near Fulda, Wilmont and Reading.  Being proud of his Dutch heritage, he and Jessie visited family and friends in Holland on  several occasions. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing and watching the Minnesota Twins.   Most of all, Dick enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and as well as the family’s newest additions, great-grandchildren, Vincent and Lauren.

Dick died Thursday, November 12, 2009 at District One Hospital, in    Faribault surrounded by his family at the age of 89 years.
