Obituary for Delphine Bertha Burns

Delphine Bertha (Voss) Burns passed away Sunday, March 15, 2020 at the Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington, MN. She was born July 29, 1926 to Robert and Alma (Brake) Voss on a farm near St. Kilian, MN. In 1934 the family moved to a farm north of Wilmont, MN. She was the oldest of eight children. After completing her schooling in Lismore, MN, she went to the Johnson Beauty School in Mankato, MN, graduating July 10, 1945.
After beauty school she was employed by the Kiyers Beauty Shop in Worthington, MN and later by Madeline Scholtes in Wilmont, MN. She married John Albersman of Wilmont August 17, 1949. She operated her own beauty shop in the basement of their home in Wilmont from 1950 to 1964. While in Wilmont she was active in community events and Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. She particularly enjoyed watching town baseball. Watching baseball was an activity she continued throughout her life, rarely missing a Minnesota Twins baseball game on TV.
Her husband John died unexpectedly in 1962 and she remarried to Bob Burns in 1964. The family moved to Bob’s farm in Worthington that same year. Upon returning from their honeymoon Bob’s friend Iver Morgan posted a sign in the driveway that read “Evergreen Farm - Now Under New Management”. He was right. On the farm she participated in all manner of farm life. No job was too big for Del. She drove tractor and grain truck, got up in the middle of the night to help with lambing, generally having 400 to 500 lambs per year, along with house and lawn work. Bob died in 1993.
Del continued to live on the farm until 1998 when she moved to a condominium with a view of the golf course in Worthington. While in Worthington she met Pat Seifert. They both loved to dance and rarely missed a dance at the Coliseum Ballroom in Worthington. They were close friends until Pat’s death in 2011.
She was an active member of Saint Mary’s Church in Worthington, member of the Wilmont VFW Auxiliary, Chairman of the Nobles County Bloodmobile, and Treasurer of the Nobles County DFL for many years. Her hobbies included dancing, gardening, bowling, golf, entertaining family and friends and going to the casino (She either broke even for the year or was up a little, so she said.)
She is survived by her two sons, Dave (Deb) Albersman, Golden Valley, MN; Daryle (Linda) Albersman, Worthington, MN; brother and sister, Lester Voss of Stacy, MN and Louella Huerkamp of Slayton, MN; four grandchildren: Latina Nickel, Sophia Markus, Chris and Pat Albersman and nine great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, John Albersman and Bob Burns, special friend, Pat Seifert, brothers, Loren, Merrill, Myron, Floyd and Robert Voss, parents, Alma and Robert Voss and grandson in-law, Jeffrey Nickel. She will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to: Sunset Hospice Cottage, PO Box 203, Worthington, MN 56187, St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Worthington or Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Wilmont.
Visitation will be Saturday, March 21, 2020 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, followed by a memorial mass and meal at 3:00 PM at St Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial will be held at a later date. Benson Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
