Obituary for Debbie Kay Van Der Linden

Debbie Kay Van Der Linden, 57, was born on February 28, 1961 in Primghar, IA, to Al and Polly (Slykhuis) Van Der Linden. Debbie was diagnosed with cancer in 2017 and after almost 6 months of fighting that nasty disease she quietly passed away on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at the Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington, MN.
Debbie received her education at Leota Christian Grade School in Leota, MN and Southwest Christian High School in Edgerton, MN.
Debbie grew up on a dairy farm milking dairy cows by Kenneth and Lismore, MN. Debbie worked at the Lismore Bar (part-time) in Lismore, MN; Huisken (Monogram) Meats in Chandler, MN; Campbell Soup Company in Worthington, MN; Quick Fix in Sioux Center, IA; Kooiman Industries in Rock Valley, IA; Rock Valley Nursing Home in Rock Valley, IA; Sioux Center Nursing Home in Sioux Center, IA; Walmart (part-time) in Sioux Center, IA; and Dordt College in Sioux Center, IA.
Debbie was a very devoted Child of God. She had a very strong devoted and loving heart for her Lord, her entire life here on earth. Debbie was baptized and confirmed at the Ebenezer Christian Reformed Church in Leota, MN. She was a member of New Life Community Church for about 20 years. She was very involved in her church family with serving luncheons, choir, Bible Studies on a regular basis, donated items for the love auctions, and going to women’s retreats.
She will be remembered for being a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, friend, and co-worker, enjoyed of doing the family history books, variety of different kinds of crafts, sightseeing, and enjoyed visiting with family and friends
Left to mourn Debbie’s loss are her dad, Al Van Der Linden; four siblings, Karen and Mark Schumann of Windom, MN, Dennis Van Der Linden of Lakefield, MN, Kevin and Arin Van Der Linden of Adrian, MN, and Nina Sauer and special friend, Robert of Kellogg, IA; nieces and nephews, Vinton Comeau, Daphne Comeau and special friend, Steve and children, Scythen and Simarah, Marcus Schumann, Derek Van Der Linden and special friend, Amber, Macy Van Der Linden, Brooklyn Schock, Alicia Sauer, and Austin Sauer; great nephew, Aiden Van Der Linden; several aunts, uncles and cousins, and special friend, Gracia Kuipers.
With open arms welcoming Debbie to her heavenly home are mom, Polly Van Der Linden; grandparents, Leendert and Johanna Van Der Linden, and John and Maggie Slykhuis; step-grandma, Jeanette Slykhuis, and several aunts and uncles.
Blessed be the memory of Debbie Kay Van Der Linden.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at the New Life Reformed Church in Sioux Center, IA with Pastor Dan Kruse officiating. Service of Committal will be at 3:00 p.m. at Worthington Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Pastor Tim Truesdell officiating.
Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at New Life Reformed Church in Sioux Center, IA.
Benson Funeral Home in Worthington, MN is coordinating the arrangements.
