Obituary for Dean Rodger Swanson

Worthington, MN

     Dean Rodger Swanson was born January 29, 1930 to David John and Agnes Marcella (Loftsted) Swanson in Lake Norden, SD. He attended school in Lake Norden, moving to Mitchell, SD in the seventh grade and graduating from Mitchell High in 1948. He attended Dakota Westleyan graduating in 1952 and later graduated with his Master in Social Work from Arizona State in 1971. He worked for the SD State Dept. in Sioux Falls, as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor in Mankato, MN, and a social worker and later Director of Family Service for Nobles County, MN. After he retired from Nobles Co. he tested for ASVAB for 12 years.
     Dean is survived by his wife, Marlene Ann Swanson (Titze) (married November 24, 1955 at First Lutheran Church in Mitchell, SD); Three children, Kenneth Dean (Becky) Swanson of Lakeville, MN, Karen Ann (Terry) Bonertz of Bloomington, MN and Paul David Swanson of Worthington, MN; Two grandchildren, Tiphany Rose Swanson and Bryce Parker Swanson both of Lakeville, MN; sister, Charlotte White of Centerburg, OH and sister-in-law Lillian, (Roland) Swanson of Sioux Falls, SD and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Agnes Swanson, one sister, Louella Marcella (Joe) Long, two brothers, David John (Phyllis) Swanson and Roland Wolfred (Lillian) Swanson.
     On August 27, 2011 God completed the good work begun in him at his baptism and called him to himself in heaven. He will live forever in the Lord.
     Memorial services will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2011 at 11:00 a.m., at the First Lutheran Church in Worthington, MN, with Rev. Richard Ricker officiating. 
    
A gathering of family and friends will be on Thursday, September 1, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., at the First Lutheran Church in Worthington.

Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of the arrangements.
