Obituary for Dean Lowell Leistico

Dean Lowell Leistico, age 84, was born on August 22, 1934 to Arthur and Esther Leistico. On May 31, 1953, Dean married Phyllis Jean Wendel, daughter of Carl and Alma Wendel. Dean started working in cabinetry woodworking at 16 years old in his uncle’s cabinetry shop. Dean and his brother, Vern, then carried on the ownership of Leistico Construction from his father. Starting in residential construction, they soon transitioned into commercial construction building many businesses within Worthington and the surrounding towns. He worked until 1988, when he started Leistico Carpentry and continued working for many years. Dean was the 3rd generation in the construction industry and was a true woodworking craftsman. Dean was a dedicated businessman for many years and a faithful member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Worthington. He has been very involved in his community. Dean had held many officer positions, including Exalted Ruler, at the Elks Lodge in Worthington. He participated in Card Club playing Pinochle and enjoyed playing cards with his family. Dean played golf often and even had two hole-in-ones. Dean was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and newly great grandfather. This past year, he got to see his first great grandbaby get baptized. He loved spending time with his family, relaxing with his wife in their lounge chairs, tinkering in his woodshop, reading many novels at home, and eating roast and potatoes for dinner. He always loved his yearly chocolate covered cherries and mystery novels as Christmas gifts from his grandchildren. Dean passed away on Sunday, October 21, 2018, at his home in Worthington, MN.
He is survived by his wife Phyllis Jean Leistico (Wendel); two sons, Tim Leistico, Alameda, CA and Wade (Karen) Leistico, Buffalo, MN; three grandchildren, Andi (Andrew) Hayes, Kelsey (Donavan) Sullivan, and Jake Leistico; two great grandchildren, Jude and Finnegan Sullivan; siblings Donald (Marlene) Leistico and Vern (Marilyn) Leistico, and several nieces and nephews.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Esther Leistico and brother, Gary Leistico.
