Obituary for David Lee Bender

Worthington, Minnesota      David Lee Bender, 68, was born on July 7, 1939, in Sedalia, Missouri, the son of Fred W. and Louise Lohman Bender.  As his father worked for the railroad, they lived in various places including Sedalia, Lafayette, IN, Anchorage, AK, before settling in Huxley, IA.  David married JeanAnn Nelson on September 6, 1963, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Slater, Iowa.  They owned and operated Bender Ceramics from 1972 - 1981.  In 1981, they moved to Mission, Texas, and then to Worthington, Minnesota, in 2005. David was very active and served as chairman of the deacons at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church.  He was also active in other churches where they had lived and was currently a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Worthington.  He served as Kiwanis Club President in Huxley.  David died on Thursday, January 31, 2008, at the Crossroads Care Center in Worthington, Minnesota.     David is survived by his wife, JeanAnn, of Worthington, Minnesota; two children, Theresa (Jeff) Rotert, of Worthington, Minnesota, and Timothy (Christina) Bender, of Redwood Falls, Minnesota; two granddaughters, Allyson Rotert and Hannah Bender, and one sister, Elaine (Russ) Kahler, of Kimberling City, Missouri.  He was preceded in death by his parents.     Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, February 6, 2008, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Worthington, Minnesota, with the Rev. Robert Schulze officiating.  Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 6, 2008, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Worthington.  Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of the arrangements.
