Obituary for David Harry Johnson

Worthington, Minnesota

     David Harry Johnson, 83, was born on October 24, 1925, in Jackson, NE, the son of Harry and Helen (Sundt) Johnson. He graduated from Sibley High School. David joined the United States Marine Corps. in March of 1943 and proudly served his country until February of 1946. David was united in marriage to Nellie “Sue” Silvis on April 24, 1947, in Bigelow, MN. He was in the milk hauling business in Sibley, IA, for a time and then moved to Thousand Oaks, CA, where they resided for several years. He and his family moved back to Worthington, MN, in 1969, where he worked for Lien Electric and the United States Postal Service, until his retirement in 1991. David was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church and Golden K Kiwanis. He enjoyed fishing, boating, reading, and solving crossword puzzles. David passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 2, 2009, at his residence in Worthington.
     David is survived by his wife, Nellie “Sue” Johnson of Worthington, MN; three sons, Wayne Johnson and special friend, Kathy, of Worthington, MN, Gary (Kristin) Johnson of New Brighton, MN, and Don Johnson of St. Paul, MN; one daughter, Jolene (Phil) Yenor of Coon Rapids, MN, and four grandchildren, David Corgan, and Emily, Sarah, and Anna Johnson. He was preceded in death by one brother, Don Johnson of Las Vegas, NV, and two sisters, Dorothy Houwen of Ocheyedan, IA, and Ruth Willemssen of Sibley, IA.
     Memorial services will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2009, at 10:00 a.m., at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Worthington, MN, with Pastor Ken Honius officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in the Fort Snelling Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 4, 2009, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington.
