Obituary for Darleen Lucille White

Darleen Lucille White, 81, was born to Bert and Agnes (Osbon)  Groenewold on August 3, 1932, in Rushmore, Minnesota.  She graduated from Worthington High School in 1950 and worked locally before her marriage. On February 17, 1957 Darleen was united in marriage to Robert C. White.  Together they raised four children and were married for 37 years until Robert’s death on July 28, 1994. Darleen died on November 27, 2013, in her home in Worthington.
    Darleen was an active member of the American Lutheran Church in Worthington.  She is survived by three sons, Brad (Jodi) of Maplewood, Minnesota, Dennis of Minnetonka, Minnesota, Scott (Pam) of Nowthen, Minnesota, a daughter Karen (Kurt) Sharp of Jordan, Minnesota, eight grandchildren, Jenni, Bob, Rachel, Joseph, Andrew, Lauren, Kaite and Kaleb, three brothers, Harlan, LeeRoy, and Wayne Groenewold all of Rushmore, two sisters, AnnMae Johnson of Beaverton, Oregon and Claribel  Grussing of Adrian, Minnesota, many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a brother Robert Groenewold.
     Visitation will be Tuesday, December 3 from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at Benson Funeral Home in Worthington.  Visitation will continue from 10:00- 11:00 A.M. at the American Lutheran Church in Worthington. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, December 4, 11:00 AM with Rev. Gary Andersen officiating.  Interment will be followed at Sunset Rest Cemetery, Rushmore, Minnesota.
    Darleen loved to be surrounded by family and friends.  The coffee was always on at her home and everyone was welcome to gather around her table to talk, share the day and laugh. Her children and family were everything to her.  Darleen was a very giving, strong and independent woman.  She was a loving and supporting grandma and the second grandma to many great nieces and nephews.  Her grandchildren always looked forward to coming to Worthington to stay with Grandma and she enjoyed coming to the Twin Cities and spending time with them.  She instilled a strong work ethic and a love for family in her children that will endure forever.  She will be missed by many until we see her again…..

Family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to American Lutheran Church.
