Obituary for Daniel Scheepstra

Daniel Scheepstra was born on April 29, 1923, to Klaas and Nellie (DeJong) Scheepstra in Worthington, Minnesota. He was raised in the Worthington area and attended School District No. 18. He worked for various farmers until entering the U.S. Army in 1945 and served with the 58th Signal Battalion in Kyoto, Japan, during WWII. Upon his discharge, he returned to the Worthington area and worked for various farmers. On April 22, 1948, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Willemssen, in Worthington, Minnesota. They farmed by Worthington and Montevideo, MN, before moving to Bakersfield, CA, where he worked for a John Deere dealership. Upon retiring, they moved to Tuscon, AZ, until returning to Worthington in 2008. He became a resident of the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne, MN, in October of 2015, where he enjoyed doing puzzles, playing bingo, and singing in the choir. He passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2020, at the Sanford Medical Center in Luverne, MN.While living in the Worthington area, Dan farmed, custom farmed, and did snow removal. His passion was farming and his John Deere tractors. He won many tractor pulls with his tandem John Deere but the highlight was winning at the Minnesota State Tractor Pull in 1968. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends as well as bowling. He was an active member of the Worthington VFW. Dan is survived by his four children, Dennis (Irene) Scheepstra of Tuscon, AZ, Roger (Karleen) Scheepstra of Brandon, SD, Nancy (Ben) Vander Kooi of Sioux Falls, SD, and Beverly (Don) Yrjo of Redwood Falls, MN, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, sister, Tena Van Zee of New Holland, SD, brother, John (Pearl) Scheepstra of Worthington, MN, and brother-in-law, Clarence Hunsucker of Buffalo, SD. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, two infant sons, sister, Sena Hunsucker, brother and sister-in-law, Clarence and Esther Scheepstra, and brother-in-law, Dale Van Zee. Private family burial will be held.
