Obituary for Daniel A. Regnier

Worthington, Minnesota      DANIEL A. REGNIER, age 86, of Worthington, died Monday, September 24, at the Worthington Regional Hospital.  He was born July 2, 1921 in Ghent, MN to Albert A. Regnier and Catherine (Buckley) Regnier.  At the age of two, he moved with his family to Mankato.  He graduated  from Mankato High School in 1938.  After graduation he attended Mankato Teachers College and received his bachelors degree in education.     Daniel was united in marriage to Mary Kathleen Howley in Mapleton, MN.  After their marriage the couple moved to Storden, MN where Daniel taught social studies and coached sports.  In the fall of 1944, he chose a teaching position in Worthington and enjoyed many years of teaching social studies at the junior high.  For the last several years of his career he was the assistant principal at the junior high.  He coached varsity baseball at the senior high and officiated high school sports for many years.  He was recently inducted into the High School Athletic Hall of Fame.     He retired from teaching in 1983 and spent many winters in Texas, so he could play golf year round. Daniel twice shot a hole-in-one and those of you who have been fortunate enough to golf with him know it was pure luck. The couple has lived at the Meadows for the past three years.     Daniel was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Early Risers Kiwanis and the Worthington Country Club.    Daniel had a joke for every occasion and loved a good political argument.     Daniel is survived by his wife, Mary Kathleen Regnier, Worthington; five children, Nadine (Thomas) Wittkopp, Brainerd, MN; Steven (Barbara) Regnier, Worthington; Douglas (Mary) Regnier, Albuquerque, NM; Annette (Patrick) Becker, Colorado Springs, Co; Brian (Sharynn) Regnier, Briar Cliff, TX; eleven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.     He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Lorraine Spence, brother-in-law Curt Spence, and grandchild, Edward Wittkopp.     Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 7 pm at the Benson Funeral Home, Worthington.  Visitation will also be from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Worthington.  The service will be Friday at 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Father Larry Brixius officiating.  Burial will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.    Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of the arrangements.
