Obituary for Dale Wayne Hardwick

Dale Wayne Hardwick, 90, passed away on January 27th in Worthington, Minnesota.
He was born on November 25, 1928, to James and Elgie (Pierce) Hardwick, in Black River Falls, Wisconsin. He was the fifth of ten children who grew up on a succession of small dairy farms near Humbird, Wisconsin. He attended Humbird Public Schools.
Dale left home at age 18 to work as a telephone lineman for AT&T in Wisconsin and Iowa. In 1950, Dale enlisted in the Army during the Korean War and served in the 355th Chemical Generator Company. He was stationed at Fort McCoy (WI) for one year and in a chemical fogging unit in Kirchheimbolanden, Germany, for one year. While in the military, he completed his GED. After his military service, Dale returned to Wisconsin. He was hired by AT&T as a telephone lineman and started working installing telephone lines across the states of Minnesota and North Dakota. In 1952, he went to work for Northwestern Bell in North Dakota.

Dale and Annabelle had three boys--James in 1961, Jeffrey in 1962 and Michael in 1964—whom they raised in Fargo. Dale lost Annabelle to cancer in 1980. He retired from the telephone company in 1986.
Dale married Audrey June (Place) Herbert on April 12, 1986, at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, in Valley City, North Dakota. Dale and Audrey moved to Fergus Falls, Minnesota.
