Colleen Ann Potts died on December 27th,2020. She was born in Mankato, MN on December 23, 1929 to Hugh and Elizabeth Kienitz of Amboy, Minnesota.
She graduated from Amboy High School in 1947. She later graduated from Mankato State University with degrees in elementary education and special education.
She taught in Madison, MN; Lakefield, MN; and Ruthton, MN--where she met her husband, William Potts.
After their marriage on August 11, 1953, they moved to Grants Pass, Oregon. Colleen taught in Cave Junction, Oregon until shortly before she gave birth to her son Steven. When she returned to Minnesota, she lived in Luverne, Minnesota where her daughter, Rebecca, and her son David were born. After her children began school, she taught in Bigelow, Minnesota until accepting a position teaching special education at the Worthington Junior High School; she held that position until she retired in 1985.
Colleen and her husband were very involved in the First United Methodist Church. Colleen loved gardening and baking, and she took a lot of pleasure in sharing her baking at Christmas.
She is survived by her children, Steven Potts of Hibbing, MN; Rebecca Potts of Worthington, Minnesota, and David Potts and his wife Connie of Hugo, Minnesota. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive her: Michael Potts, his wife Erin and their daughter Celia of Hugo, Minnesota; Kristin Shaver, her husband Matt and their son Wesley of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Caroline Wald and her husband Taylor of White Bear Lake, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her husband.
Colleen's family would like to thank the staff at Crossroads Care Center for providing her with a safe and caring home for the past couple years and to thank the nurses from Sanford Hospice who had helped with her care for the past year..
