Obituary for Clifford Harold Gravenhof

Clifford Harold Gravenhof was born on April 12, 1941 in Worthington, MN, the eldest son of Albert and Frances (Damstra) Gravenhof.
He spent his youth living on farms in the area. His first years at school were spent in a one room country school. In third grade he started attending the Worthington Christian School, his parents having been one of the founding families. He finished his schooling at Worthington High School. Cliff joined the Guards and completed his service before the outbreak of the Vietnam War. After the completion of his six month active duty, he began to help a local plumber. How could he have known it would become a lifetime career? In 1974, he started his own business, continuing to provide service to many until health issues encouraged his retirement.
Cliff married Judith Marie Wood on May 26, 1966. To this union were born three sons: Alan with wife LuAnn (Steen) Gravenhof, Bradley with wife Denise (Van Ruler) Gravenhof and Jason with wife Dana (Sherman) Gravenhof. Precious grandchildren extended the family before long. They are Kala, Garett, Austin, Shelby (Ariel), Dylan, Makayla, Jordyn and Elle. He is also survived by four siblings: Julius & Mavis (Klaassen) Gravenhof of Worthington, MN, Albertha Vant Hul of Jackson, MN, Sharilyn Hopkins of Orlando, FL and Linda & Byron Emmert of Blaine, MN.
Cliff loved to hunt and fish. His greatest pleasure in these activities was enjoying the beauty and wonders of nature. At those times he felt closest to God. Another joy in Cliff’s life was music. He loved to listen and participate and spent many hours with his guitar and fiddle. Probably his greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren. A special time were the vacations spent together at the lake and all the years he and Judy were able to take camping trips with just their five grandchildren - no parents allowed! Many wonderful memories were formed during these trips.
Cliff passed away peacefully on March 1, 2018 with his family present at the Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington, MN.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 5, 2018, at 10:00 a.m., at the Worthington Christian Reformed Church in Worthington, MN, with Pastor Adam Eisenga officiating. Casket bearers will be Cliff's grandchildren and Kevin DeSmith, Ryan Gravenhof and Jamie Gravenhof. Burial will be in the Worthington Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 4, 2018, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington.
